From Desk to Dinner*

In this modern day in age, many businesses are taking a more relaxed approach to wearing smart clothing within the office. Corporate is becoming a lot less, well, corporate. Personally, this won’t stop me from dressing for success – I’m a strong believer in ‘dressing for the job you want’ and a CEO of a multi-national corporation company wouldn’t show up in a creased shirt and ripped jeans. Power dressing makes a woman feel confident – or at least it does for me – and after reading Karren Brady’s biography recently, I seriously want to up my game in the work wear department.

Whilst I work a 9-5 (well 8-4) day job, I often find myself at networking events or press launches after work so I need to be casual enough to be comfortable at those but smart enough to feel motivated in the office. If there is one stand out brand to shop for clothing that makes women feel empowered, uplifted and the strongest version of themselves (whilst looking amazing of course!) it’s Karen Millen.

“Busy lives and an ever-changing work life balance means we need to feel confident, put-together and ready for any eventuality.”

Each piece in the latest SS18 collection is beautifully crafted with incredible attention to detail; each item having their own individual story right down from the design elements to the heritage fabrics. In a bid to Be More Karen – here are some of my favourite ensembles perfect for the ‘From Desk to Dinner’ situation I so often find myself in.

Prints and patterns are so in this spring and I absolutely adore the stripe detail on this balloon sleeve shirt. The colour remains muted which allows the sleeves to do the talking and show off their beautifully contrasting silk ties on the cuffs. This shirt will blend perfectly tucked in to the tailored high waist trousers in black. I love mixing print with plain and teaming it with a pop of block colour in either the choice of shoes or handbag. Think of the possibilities you can have with this outfit – personally, I’m feeling a shock of electric blue would really finish it off.

The shirt and skirt combo we all know and love is a look you can always count on but this one has a little twist. I’ve combined an ivory lace jersey top with a black faux leather pencil skirt for a smart yet reserved look. It’s a classic look yet super versatile and looks amazing both in and out of the office. A killer black heel screams sophistication whilst at the desk; whereas a striking red court brings a new dimension to the ensemble during dinner.

Finally, the dress – a tough one as there’s always the worry of looking too overdressed in a restaurant or bar. This one in particular is perfect for quite possibly every situation. It’s perfectly fitted to accentuate your body making you feel a million dollars whilst remaining totally effortless. Certainly a wardrobe essential and inspired by my favourite YouTuber, Lydia Millen, is this Leather Belt Pencil Dress. Perfectly plain, tremendously tailored and dramatically detailed by the leather belt, you know you’ll mean business wearing this and feel darn good doing it too. Teamed with a statement leopard print court to bring out your feisty side and a beautiful black leather bag to complement the detailing on the dress, this outfit is an absolute showstopper.

This is no throwaway fashion; this is quality statement pieces which will stand the test of time.”
