Those of you who have been following a while might remember that last year, I was invited to have brunch with the lovely ladies from Johnny Loves Rosie to get to know the brand and check out their latest pieces. To showcase their new SS17 wares, the team invited me down to London for afternoon tea, amongst some other beautiful bloggers, at York & Albany, part of the Gordon Ramsey restaurant group.
London isn’t exactly a pop to the shops for me but I’ll always jump at the chance to go simply because I love it there; when you are treated to tea at Gordon Ramsay’s too, how could I turn that down? Arriving at my destination, a smart looking all glass front on the corner of Parkway in Camden, wicker chairs in the seating area outside and almost parisienne styled fabric awning displaying the name York & Albany across each one.
Heading on inside and being shown to the table on the right, adorned with glittering gold and stunning silver pieces from the latest collection. D&G-esque headbands, super-soft pompom keychains and our very own personalised monogram nude clutch. I was in accessory heaven and loved being able to pick up and play with the pieces. There was a beautiful golden chain, home to a little pendant shaped like a bee to celebrate world wildlife week soon, a pair of gorgeous statement earrings with a matching necklace and some pretty hair pieces perfect for weddings or festivals.
Johnny Loves Rosie seem to have got this season down with a perfect mixture of bold, stylish statement pieces to minimal, girly, dainty accessories for every occasion. Plenty of florals and homage to animals as we move forward into festival season and wonderful wearables for all those weddings we all have invites for.
It wasn’t too long before we were served with one pretty looking tiered stand, home to smashed avocado and egg, salmon and cream cheese and ham and mustard open sandwiches, rhubarb and custard tarts, lemon drizzle cakes, scones a plenty and decadent chocolate macarons.
An instabloggers dream with its variety of colours and precise presentation. I only wish you could taste the contents when looking at the photos. It was divine. The avocado was accompanied by a hint of chilli, the salmon was so fresh and just melted away with every bite and the mustard packed a punch to go with the mild flavour of the meat.
The scones were crumbly and flavoursome, the lemon drizzle moist and dense but just the right amount and the cream on top was so delightfully sharp, it made even the cinnamon notes taste sweet. The macaron was just a little bit too much. I mean, I love a good, rich chocolate every now and again but these were quite literally mega monster macarons. They were huge and the centre was certainly filled with a ganache of sheer indulgence. Very, very tasty though.
After popping a few cakes in my bag to take home for Ben (wouldn’t want him missing out now would I) and after realising that none other than Dermot O’Leary was on the table opposite us, it was time to say bye to the bloggers and to Charlotte and Lucy from Johnny Loves Rosie and thank them for such a wonderful afternoon. I headed over to visit the zoo afterwards to utilise my time in London wisely.
When I returned home, I took a close look at my monogram clutch to find a strap tucked away inside allowing me to use it as a shoulder bag too and also the cutest little gold and diamante ‘S’ initial necklace which I haven’t took off since. Thank you for hosting me (and the others!) at York & Albany for your SS17 launch. I had a wonderful time meeting you again along with meeting new bloggers and eating all that yummy food.
Have you checked out the new collection over at the Johnny Loves Rosie website yet? What is your favourite piece?
