After all the chaos of Christmas, January is where I like to really take some ‘me time’ to pamper myself. Swapping the cheese, wine and chocolate for face masks, luxurious oils and rich balms is something my skin always thanks me for and I like to indulge more than usual at this time of year. There’s nothing quite like switching off for an hour, running a hot bath (Lush bath bomb compulsory) and whacking on a face mask is there? On top of the usual excess of December, our poor skin is also battling the elements – constant rain, cold temperatures and howling winds are the usual in England right about now – so it really is taking a bit of a beating. I absolutely adore all of these products and they now essentials in my TLC routine.
I love a good face mask and have a sizable stash that I can dip into whatever the occasion. Usually, Origins is my brand of choice for this but I’ve become totally obsessed with the Aesop Blue Chamomile Facial Hydrating Masque. My skin is dehydrated at the best of times, but in Winter it really drinks up any drop of moisture it can. The mask itself has a gel like consistency which feels beautifully soothing as you apply it, and as you wait the 30 minutes for it to do its work, you can literally feel your skin getting that much needed hit of hydration. Being formulated with nourishing botanicals, such as the balancing Blue Chamomile and the calming Ginger Root, it smells divine as you pop it on your face. I like to give myself a mini facial – massaging it in and really taking my time; and the lavender scent relaxes me before I have even got the product on! Fast forward half an hour, and my skin is always left feeling soft, refreshed and healthy. Aesop apparently took years developing this and getting it just right; and you know what? They nailed it.
As I mentioned, I like to relax in a bath with my face mask on, and moisturising my body afterwards is not a task I look forward to. As much as I love my lotions and potions, stepping out into the cold and having to rub cream everywhere then wait for it to sink in before putting on my PJs is not my idea of a good time. However, when I discovered the NUXE Multi Usage Dry Oil in my ASOS Advent Calendar things changed. I have the 50ml splash bottle, which I will admit can get a little messy so if you’re buying this I would recommend getting the 100ml spray. This is made up of six different plant oils and has endless uses – body oil, facial oil, a drop in with your foundation for that extra glow, hair treatment…the list goes on. Personally, I like to smother myself in the stuff after a bath as it sinks into your skin within seconds and doesn’t leave a trace of residue on your clothes. It smells good enough to eat and leaves my whole body feeling super soft. A little goes such a long way, so this is a product that will easily last you throughout the whole of Winter. For Summer, I already want to get my hands on the shimmering version of this – hello glowy skin!
Finally, a place most people don’t give the luxury treatment to is the lips. I still use my Carmex and Lanolips, don’t get me wrong, but ever since I took the plunge in Space NK last year I haven’t been able to put down the ByTerry Baume De Rose. It smells incredible, of roses and summer time, but not in an overwhelming way. As soon as I first swirled my finger round the pot I could tell straight away this was a different class of balm – it has a beautiful silky, velvety texture that sinks into your lips. It actually feels like it’s treating them, as opposed to say Vaseline which just sits there as a protective barrier. Super hydrating, stays put for a good couple of hours (which I’d say is good going for a lip balm) and a great base for popping under a lipstick. I like to use this following a little exfoliation session with my Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub for the perfect pout. Yes, it’s expensive for a lip balm (£39.00) but oh my goodness is it worth it…and so are you!
What are your go-to products for a pamper session? I literally have cupboards full of options. If you’d like to find out more of my faves, hop on over to my new site (shameless plug – sorrynotsorry). I launched Spread The Sparkle (point 2) earlier in January and it’s jam packed full of beauty chatter for you to get your teeth into! Last but not least, Happy New Year to you lovely lot! I hope you all had a fantastic break and that going back to work hasn’t been too much of a shock to the system!
