The Five Beauty Bits Every Girl Needs in Her Collection | Guest Post – Spread the Sparkle
Hello everyone! I’m Kara, and I blog over at Spread The Sparkle.
I have a confession to make; I’ve had a bit of a blogging hiatus recently (tut tut, bad blogger). What with the summer holidays (I’m the proud momma of the most beautiful little 3 year old) and a few personal things going on life kind of got in the way, but damn how I’ve missed my little corner of the Internet!
I’ve been following Sherry for quite a while now, and had the pleasure of meeting her at a Kiehl’s event earlier this year. I can honestly say that she’s one of my favourite blogger babes out there and it’s so exciting to be guest posting for this beauty. What better way to get back into the swing of things.
As a self-confessed beauty addict, I knew as soon as Sherry asked me, exactly what I had to write about. I’ve decided to do a little round up of my favourite beauty bits…my holy grails, my go-to products, my desert island essentials, the things I simply couldn’t live without. You get the picture. So, without further ado, lets get stuck in!
I love me a good bit of skin care. In fact, my collection is currently getting a little out of hand so I’ve put myself on a skin care spending ban until i use up some of the surplus that is crowding my shelves and cupboards. One thing that I would break this ban for, without a moments hesitation, is Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate At £37.00 this is definitely an investment, but one that is worth every penny. One thing that I feel very passionately about is investing in good skin care products – look after the skin you’re in because no amount of fancy make up can hide unloved foundations. I was given a bottle of this for my birthday last year and it’s still not empty (a little really does go a long way – I have used this almost every night since May 2015). This oil is one of the very few products where you see immediate effects; a couple of drops patted into a clean face before bed produces radiant, healthy looking skin come the morning. As with all Kiehl’s products, the Midnight Recovery Concentrate is bursting full of natural goodness and it sinks into the skin beautifully within a couple of minutes, eliminating the possibility of an unsightly oil slick all over your pillow. If I could only use one skin care product for the rest of my life, this would be it. Consider this statement an enabler…go grab yourselves a bottle ladies!
This next item is one hundred percent a princess product. Do you need it? No. Should you have it? Hell yes! I picked up the Beauty Elixir from Caudalie on a recent trip to Paris (you can get your hands on it in Space NK here in the UK) and have been having a little love affair with it ever since. I spritz a little (who am I kidding? I spritz copious amounts) of this all over my face when it’s hot or I’m feeling a little lack lustre nd instantly come back to life. It’s incredibly refreshing and smells amazing. Caudalie claim that the Beauty Elixir smooths fine line and tightens pores, but I have to be honest with you all I haven’t really noticed that. It is however, so brilliant that I really don’t care. A little spray of this to set make up or solve ‘cakey’ issues when you’ve gone in a little heavy handed with the powder works wonders too.
On to make up. Those that read my blog will know that I’m all about that base. I have a real hoard of foundations, BB creams, primers, powders, concealers – if it exists I own it. I go through phases of loving something really full coverage to preferring something that lets my skin breathe. Whatever finish you’re craving, you can bet your bottom dollar that NARS will have you covered. Their Sheer Glow foundation has cult status in beauty circles for good reason, but for the past five months I have been religiously reaching for NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser in the shade Finland FYI). This is an all-round brilliant base; giving you an SPF of 30, evening out your skin tone but still letting your skin’s natural beauty shine through, it feels super light and is also really hydrating. This is one of those products that will be a staple in my (bulging) make up bag for many years to come because on those minimal days, or when you need that extra boost of dewiness, all you need is a little of this, brows and mascara.
Another quick fix that can always be found in my possession is Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil Now don’t get me wrong, I love a crisp cat eyed flick as much as the next girl, but this gem of a liner saves me on those days where mummy duties dictate a five minute face. My favourite shade is ‘Hustle’; a beautiful, deep chocolatey brown with subtle flecks of golden shimmer. The genius of this product is that it can be blended into a gorgeous smoky look if you get to work shortly after application, but if you let it settle this is a pencil that will not budge for love nor money. I have brown eyes, and ‘Hustle’ really adds depth and makes my eyes pop whilst still managing to look like I haven’t put in too much effort. There are a grand total of 41 shades (bravo, Urban Decay) that include everything from laid-back browns to vibrant pinks, from classic black to electric blue. Whether you’re going for show stopping or casual day-to-day make up there’s a hue to suit your mood.
My final pick of the bunch comes from one of my favourite make up brands of the moment – Too Faced. Their launches are always on point and can we just take a moment to appreciate the packaging of every single thing they release? There was no question of me including something by them, and it was damn hard to choose (the short list featured the Chocolate Bar and Sweet Peach palettes, as well as their Pink Leopard bronzer) but the product that won out was of course the ‘Better Than Sex’ mascara I love a big brush on a mascara, and this one gives me huge Bambi eyes every time without fail. One coat of this baby and my lashes are so thick, voluptuous and full that people have mistaken them for falsies. As if that wasn’t quite enough, this mascara is all wrapped up nicely in the cutest, metallic pastel pink tube. A must for any girly girl’s make up bag.
So there we have it ladies and gents. My top five beauty bits that I think should be in every girl’s bathroom cabinet and make up bag.
