Last weekend, Ben and I took a trip to London as we were heading to Wembley Stadium to see Coldplay perform during their Head Full Of Dreams Tour. As soon as I booked the tickets, I booked this hotel too. I actually found it on Booking.com for a very good rate considering the location and it was too good to not snap up. Who would have thought you could get a modern 5* hotel in the heart of Shoreditch for just shy of £155?
Shoreditch is by far one of my favourite areas in London, it has such a great atmosphere amongst the many different eateries and not home to the famous Brick Lane. The hotel, situated a 2 minute walk from Old Street station and a 10 minute walk from the high street, the location is fantastic. Easily accessible via metro and close enough to the happenings of Hoxton. You can hop in an Uber for 10 minutes to Tower Bridge too which will only set you back around £7. (or if you use this code, you can get your first journey free up to £15! – SHERADANF2UE )
The building itself is a tall triangular one, quite edgy and with quirkily placed windows, extremely modern looking and branded with the big white ‘M’.
Walking on through to the reception desk, to check in and we were quickly approached to have our bags taken. Check in was seamless and we were quickly provided with the keys to our room for the night.
Taking in the décor, unquestionably modern and arty with glistening crystal fixtures and stunning arrays close to the lifts.
Opening the door to our room, unveiling a large plush room with more gadgets than you could shake a stick at. It looks not too dissimilar to some of those London pads you see in the movies, large plasma screen with glossy surround, black gloss furniture, a white leather recliner and a very inviting bed. Not to mention the stunning, crisp white bathroom complete with mini Elemis Spa products to use in the monsoon shower. Super soft and fluffy white robes hung up on the back of the door.
An integrated display screen is just next to the door allowing you to control the settings of the bathroom such as the underfloor heating, the air conditioning and the lighting.
Another iPad is housed just around the corner on one of the bed side tables giving you complete control of the features within the room such as the TV, music, lighting, mood lighting and to open and close the curtains too – which is the coolest thing ever and now I want this capability in my house.
The hotel also provides you with a ‘Handy’ phone to use during your stay which you can take out with you as you explore the city. It has some great features and can give you recommendations on places to go or where to eat as well as the all important map. This is a brilliant touch and certainly a worthwhile investment for tourists in London. I am not 100% sure if these are included in every room, we stayed in a deluxe rated room. We got our use out of this free service during our weekend break in the city, helping us to locate tube stations and eateries.
Im a sucker for tea making facilities in hotels and was extremely impressed by the Nespresso Krups machine hidden away in the wardrobe area alongside a leather case with a selection of coffee pods and quintessentially British teas. There was a stainless steel kettle too for the tea lovers!
Underneath, just visible through the glass drawer were several glass jars filled with delicious goodies. A little on the pricey side though at £6.50 a jar but if you have a hankering for Salted Almonds or Mini Eggs during your stay, definitely a bonus. They do have an In-Room Service menu which also details the cost of the breakfast… it may very well have been worth the almost £30 but as we like to explore, we didn’t book the breakfast and instead wandered into the Spitalfields Market for crepes. Just from reading the menu though, I was salivating.
The bed was as soft and comfortable as it looked. Although a little on the ‘too soft’ side for me – I love a firm mattress and firm pillows – it gave us a great night sleep and I woke up feeling refreshed. There was some faint and distant noise coming from the direction of the window but nothing like what I was expecting for a Saturday night in Shoreditch and being the light sleeper that I am, it didn’t disturb me at all.
